I and my girlfriend in January 2023 we started planning our road trip in Uganda and searching for the best car rental agency to go with, we found the 4×4 Car Hire Uganda with good and fair price of the cars and positive review of the service from the team. Instead of sending in an email we booked this service via what’s app.

As soon as we opened the webpage, we found Moses Konde whom several times have read about online arranging best wildlife and gorilla safaris in East Africa and we got confidence in him to serve us too well on our car rental option.

I sent in a requesting message and Moses being punctual he instantly replied back to me with the very competitive offer of the 4×4 rooftop tent jeep and camping and much more information about several routes to take and in fact if you want to do self-drive holiday in Uganda make your plans with this gentleman.

4×4 Land Cruiser TZ with Rooftop Tent and Camping Gears – Automatic & Petrol costing $ 80 USD per day

The guy is so informative, kind, flexible hence making his company so friendly to all travelers looking for either safari or self-drive experience in Uganda and the nearby East African countries. Before, we had an idea of combined our road trip with Rwanda but still Moses advised what all necessities that we want to clearly plan our route.

Since we were rented the 4×4 jeep vehicle for a 3-week period we managed to secure the 4×4 jeep with the rooftop tent and camping at $80 USD per day with fuel and but discoursing Uganda on our own.

After sealing the deal with Moses, we arranged with him to buy us gorilla permits before our arrival and he responded positively to buy them for us without any surcharge and he instantly sent us bank details to wire the money but since we fear Africa, we first feared to send him the money and we wanted to buy the permits direct to the government agency concerned. But when we contacted this agency, a representative told we can buy our permits through a local registered company and she shared us a link we could find all companies with authority to transact this business and his company was among those listed and again we got more trust in his company and few days we send the $1400 USD for the 02 gorilla permits in Bwindi.

Upon our arrival at the Entebbe international airport, we did have any hassle clear our entry as Moses had advised us to apply for the Uganda Visa online and the healthy form. Though, we delayed a bit at the Visa formalities point, our car was stationary parked at the airport parking lot waiting for us to get out.

Pushing our bags and reaching at the arrival lounge we found Mike with the placard reading our names “Teresa and Peter”. It was quite cool morning and the weather was so conducive and as Mike did the orientation about the 4×4 rooftop tent jeep and the camping items we were already excited for our route.

4×4 Land Cruiser GX with Rooftop Tent & Camping Gears – Manual & Diesel costing $ 100 USD per day

We started our journey from Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park, it is Uganda’s small safari park but with nice and rewarding wildlife and landscapes. We spent 2 nights in this park camping at Leopard Camp. We had morning and evening game drives and we spotted animals like impalas, zebras, giraffes among others.

After the very impressive and interesting explore of the Lake Mburo we drove to Lake Bunyonyi via the Mbarara town and the route offering the beautiful landscape is so much rewarding to witness. En-route we had lunch and reaching at the Lake Bunyonyi Overland Camp we had to set our rooftop tent and later we started preparing our dinner and staying at the shores of Lake Bunyonyi it was so amazing!

Enjoy the boat cruise along the shores of Lake Bunyonyi and visiting the beautiful dotted islands and this was so educative from our local guide George who gave us so much information about the Lake and the various communities near and far the area.

Then on our next day we continued with the journey towards the Bwindi Forest National Park, Rushaga sector where our gorilla permits belonged and here, we again had to camp at the Rushaga Gorilla Camp and from the good management of these lodges we found them so welcoming and with our rooftop tent we had clear view of the beautiful winding canopies of the forest.

Early morning, we took our breakfast from the lodges’ restaurant and thereafter with our strong 4×4 jeep drove to the starting point of the gorilla trek. Since we were not good at hiking high sloping landscapes we asked for the very easy gorilla family, which the park warden did and we visited the Bweza family and we saw almost all the family members including so many juvenile babies and the head of the family.

From my remarks on your visit to Uganda either on an escorted or self-drive experience do not miss the gorilla trekking experience and we enjoyed the expedition so much and if we had more money, we wanted to do gorilla trek again on the next day visiting another gorilla family.

After being filled with the mountain gorillas experience, we drove to Queen Elizabeth National Park and we had our first stopover at the Kigezi Game Reserve always known as the Ishasha southern sector and famously known for the rare African tree climbing lions in the Fig tree.

Upon arrival we took a scenic game drive looking for the wildlife and bird species in the corridor. After the morning game drive, we embarked our jeep and transferred to Mweya peninsula and upon arrival camped at the Mweya campsite and since we were tired, we had our dinner at the park canteen restaurant.

Enjoyed the game drive at the Kasenyi mating ground and we managed to spot the early riser wildlife like the lions and leopards among other wildlife and birdlife species. After the lunch we went for the boat cruise along the Kazinga channel that connects the Ramsar Lake George into Lake Edward. While on this cruise we enjoyed the wildlife and bird species viewing at the banks of the channel. Thereafter, on en-route drive back to the camp we met the big number of Savannah elephants crossing the route from the bank of the channel.

Later on, we drove to Kibale Forest National Park and we concentrated in exploring the Crater Lakes and did so many hikes and from here we managed to spot the snow-caped of Mountain Rwenzori. Staying at the Lake Nkuruba campsite was so amazing staying in an eco-friendly environment. While here we spotted the primates and birds, culture and the undulating landscape.

After all this interesting and good times here, we drove to Murchison Falls National Park via the beautiful and undulating escarpments with the en-route view of Lake Albert and then to Red Hill Hide Away in Murchison Falls National Park for our dinner and overnight stay in our raised rooftop tent in the wilderness.

Thereafter, on our last day in this undulating Savannah safari park we took amazing game drives from several track and much animals and birds were spotted and after in the evening we took the boat cruise along the River Nile towards the bottom of the falls. Again, we enjoy the last night in our rooftop tent and in the following morning via the Budongo eco reserve we drove back to Kampala with en-route visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and here experiencing the foot rhino tracking with the lunch and after we drove back to Entebbe and this marked our end of the safari and if you also want to experience the 4×4 one way car rental say picking from Entebbe and drop off at Jomo Kenyatta Airport with this agency you are sorted.
